The Del Fambrough Collection

Del Fambrough was the chair of the English Department at Lawrence High School for many years. One of her many contributions to LHS was our Minority Literature course which was created in 1969. Poetry, short stories, novels and other forms of literature by black authors were taught. In response to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960's, Minority Literature also offered a forum for discussion of social and political issues of the day. Mrs. Fambrough was a strong supporter of the LHS Library. During her tenure at LHS her suggestions for

book purchases made our literature collection an outstanding one. Now, as a gift from the Fambrough family, the LHS Library features The Del Fambrough Collection in her memory. The collection offers selections from Mrs. Fambrough's personal library as well as The Complete Works of Langston Hughes.
