Lawrence native brings 'Frosty' to life — in stores

Just in time for the holiday season, Lawrence native and accomplished illustrator Paul Coker is bringing his Frosty the Snowman character to life once again — this time on gifts, apparel and home furnishings.

Coker, who illustrated the lovable character for the original 1969 CBS special, now is seeing his design featured on a line of products created by Warner Bros. Consumer Products. The items are being sold through Mervyn's stores.

Coker was born in 1929 in Lawrence, and drew the "Chesty Lion" mascot that remains the symbol for Lawrence High School. He now lives in Santa Fe, N.M., where he continues to work with Hallmark Cards Inc., Mad Magazine and Rankin/Bass Productions, the company behind the Frosty TV special.
