What additional services would you like the library to provide?

CD library with useful music.

Additional computers in computer lab.
Librarian comments: We are expecting new computers next year. Keep your fingers crossed.
Audio tapes for English Literature classics for checkout.
Librarian comments: What do you mean--books on tape?
Can't imagine what else you'd have time for.
Come and teach my class 2-3 days a week. I'm not sure; if I need help (and the library staff can help me), then help me. Always--Thanks.
Continue to expand video library.
In-service on web research.
Let students know when computers are not available to them.
Lexus.
Maybe an email newsletter touting new books added to the collection.
More periodicals/journals, maybe.
Librarian comments: Have you given a list to the librarians of journals that you would like the library to order? Will your students use the journals? With electronic resources, our selection of periodicals is quite high.
Post the current bestsellers--similar to what the Public Library does. Have a cart with those best sellers available for checkout.
Update memory to allow less "Wait time" while researching the web.
Librarian comments: From Jerad: memory is not what is needed, but a "switched" network. Very expensive.
Workshops for students and staff coordinating with content class needs--primary vs secondary research, good vs poor internet searching, which search engines to use for which type of research.
Librarian comments: Have you requested workshops to be conducted for your classes?
Faster/more computers.

What do you think are the weaknesses of the library program?
Computer lab--often down or booked by others. Perhaps could be open to 4:30 pm.
Librarian comments: Next year, we are receiving new computers in the computer lab. The library is open until 4 pm. At the present time, I do not believe the lab will be open until 4:30 pm. It would be nice if other computer labs could be open for students to use during the day.
Current videos--foods and related.
Lack of Lexus.
Librarian comments: Lexus is too expensive for our budget.
Magazines.
Need more videos on world cultures.
Need more videos on writers of prominence.
Old computers in back.
Old computers in the lab.
Place to visit for some students and not work.
Reference books are sparse in some areas.
Librarian comments: If there are areas of the library that need more material (videos, books, reference books) please contact the librarians with your requests. Remember that all material must have a review from a professional journal.
Some modern fiction (Science Fiction/Fantasy/Mysteries) could be added.
Some students think the librarians are mean.
Sometimes it's hard to get in.
The Library Song. Ugh.
Training sessions on new technology available in the library, for example digital camera, technologically enhanced presentations, integration of library media.
Librarian comments: Training sessions may be scheduled at your request.
What's up with the empty room next to the computer lab?
Librarian comments: The classroom may be scheduled for classes and meetings. Next year, a LCD projector will be permanently mounted in the classroom for your use.
Would like to see more new/recent books: fiction and non fiction.
Librarian comments: We purchase books once each semester. Our last book order included recent fiction, non fiction books and the American Library Association's recommended books: Best Books for Young Adults, Editor's Choice, and Quick Picks for Reluctant Readers. Each purchase that we make must have a review from a professional journal and materials must support the curriculum. The closest books that we have to "best sellers" are the books from the Oprah Winfrey's Book Club. The books are given to the LHS library--the library belongs to the American Library Association.
You do so well with what you have--imagine how great it would be to be even more "funded."
I wish the web site of the day could be stored in a separate file. I wish I could access it on my own terms.
Librarian comments: The Web Site of the Day is stored on the LHS Web Page. If you wish not to receive the Web Page of the Day, you may request your name to be removed from the list.

What do you think are the strengths of the library program?
Accessible
Active, lots of "outreach"
All the effort put into getting kids to read!
Availability of books
Awareness projects
Compared with the library at my last high school, I would say that the "awareness" level of the library here at LHS is so much higher with lots of posters, programs, etc. It was as if no one knew where the library was located at OSHS (then again, the physical layout there at the HS isn't that conducive--the library is way out of the way).
Creative, freindly people working there
Current technology, at least it looks that way
Environment
Fantastic
Friendly, accessible staff
Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff
Good knowledgeable staff
Good research choices
Great web site (daily) for teachers
Great librarians
Great personnel
Great staff
Helpful people
Location
Most of the U.S. History topics are very well covered (videos)
Outstanding, approachable, knowlegeable staff
The people
Personnel--always helpful and cheerful
Photographing students reading
Posters
Remodeled environment--pleasant surroundings
Resources (and the effort it takes to keep library current)
Staff
Staff helpful
Staff is very friendly and extremely knowlegeable
Staff really puts forth 110% in helping people
Staff--absolutely wonderful to work with!
Up to date resources
This is a very student-centered library
Warm, friendly environment
Willingness to help me find resources, etc.
Librarian comments:
One of the strongest strengths of the library is the staff, teachers and the administration of Lawrence High School.
Another strength is the location of the library; it is located in the center of activity.
