Common File Formats and How To Open Them
http://members.aol.com/donnaskani/filetypes.html
Occasionally we receive email attachments (files) that we can't open. Usually, it is because we don't have the program on our computer that the sender used to create the file or any other program that will open it. Common File Formats is a web page that lists many of the types and programs that will open or display them.
Hoaxbusters
http://hoaxbusters.ciac.org/. CIAC (Computer Incident Advisory Capability ), U.S. Dept. of Energy. Reveiwed 3 March 2003.
Anyone who has received the Bill Gates money-back offer or an urgent email from a pseudo-Nigerian official needing a place to deposit untold sums of money will find this site, created and maintained by the CIAC (Computer Incident Advisory Capability), helpful. The objective of this site is to "describe some of the warnings, offers, and pleas for help that are filling our mailboxes, clogging our mailservers, and that generally do not have any basis in fact." Suspected hoaxes can easily be verified by keyword searching, through an index, or by investigating pre-set categories such as Urban Myths, Giveaways, etc.

Webopediaebopedia
http://www.webopedia.com/ebopedia
INT Media Group, Inc.~ Reviewed 18 Feb. 2002.
This Web site advertises itself as the"only online dictionary and search
engine you need for computer and Internet technology."~ The Webopedia is more than a dictionary; it is really similar to a concise encyclopedia. In addition to a searchable database of terms, there are short articles on topics such as "The Science of Color," found under the "Did You Know" link on the home page. A "Term of the Day" feature, which can be sent to your e-mail address, and a list of the "Top 15 Terms" provide starting points for the casual browser. One banner ad at the top of each page hardly detracts from the site's extensive content. Webopedia offers an easy way to keep up with ever-changing computer terminology.
